The Challenge

Banff Centre's Drupal 7 website had accumulated years of structural complexity, making it increasingly difficult to navigate, manage and improve.

With diverse audiences and more than 70 internal website users, the migration to Drupal 10 needed to achieve more than a technical upgrade. It was an opportunity to simplify the website's structure, improve the visitor experience and give internal teams a more manageable platform.

The challenge was to deliver these improvements while coordinating technical development, stakeholder requirements and the needs of a large, active website.

Approach

01

Website Structure

Reviewed the website's information architecture, content organization and user journeys to identify opportunities for simplification.

Led structural consolidation and supported improvements to navigation, sitemaps and CMS requirements, creating a clearer foundation for visitors and internal content teams.

02

Platform Delivery

Coordinated developers, agency partners and internal stakeholders throughout the migration.

Managed requirements, Jira workflows, component configurations, backlog priorities and user testing to support phased implementation, quality assurance and effective delivery.

03

Ongoing Improvement

Supported accessibility and performance optimization, analytics monitoring and post-launch enhancements.

Established processes for website governance and ongoing improvements, while providing guidance and training to help internal teams manage the updated platform.

Results & Impact

The redesigned website structure made content easier to organise and maintain, while faster page loads and accessibility improvements supported a better experience for visitors.

Alongside these improvements, organic traffic increased by approximately 30% through the wider programme of website optimisation.

For internal teams, the migration established clearer content management processes, improved governance and a more sustainable approach to ongoing optimisation. With more than 70 internal website users, these changes helped create a platform that could support future improvements rather than simply replacing an ageing CMS.
